“What then? To-morrow, I said, you will find an earthen lamp; for a man only loses that which he has.”
Epictetus did not chase the thief. He shrugged and bought another lamp. Whatever you prize is also what can be taken, and the more you grip it the more it can unsettle you. Better locks miss the point. See clearly what you are guarding, then settle ahead of time how you will stand if it goes.
